JOY — Jotting Our Yesterdays
Delete your account
Use this page to request that your JOY (Jotting Our Yesterdays) account and associated data are deleted. JOY is the private memory-jar app listed on Google Play and the App Store as Jotting Our Yesterdays. To remove individual jots and keep the account, see Delete data.
How to request deletion
- Open the JOY (Jotting Our Yesterdays) app and sign in.
- Tap your profile avatar, then open Settings.
- Scroll to Privacy & danger zone.
- Type DELETE (or your exact display name) to confirm.
- Optionally add a short reason, then tap Delete my account.
Requesting deletion signs you out on this device and starts a 7-day grace period. After those 7 days, deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
If you cannot open the app
Email hello@startjotting.today from the Google or Apple email address on your JOY account. Include the subject line “JOY account deletion request” and ask us to delete your JOY (Jotting Our Yesterdays) account. We will verify that the request comes from the account holder, then apply the same 7-day grace period and purge described below.
How to cancel during the grace period
Sign back into JOY before the 7 days end. A banner will offer Keep my account, and Settings will offer Cancel deletion. Once purge has started, cancellation is no longer possible.
Data that is deleted
When the grace period ends, we permanently delete:
- Your JOY account, profile, display name, and email used to sign in to JOY
- Jots (text memories) you authored, including items in Deleted Joys
- Photos and voice notes you uploaded, and the stored files for that media
- Your jar memberships, notifications, push tokens, and notification preferences
- Any jar where you are the only remaining member, including that jar’s contents
Push notification tokens are removed as soon as you request deletion, before the grace period ends.
Data that is kept
- Jots, photos, and voice notes authored by other members of a shared jar. Those jars stay available to remaining members. If you created the jar, ownership transfers to another member.
- Your Google or Apple account itself. JOY cannot delete those. Sign-in with Google or Apple is managed by those providers.
- Limited operational records (for example security or server logs) that may remain for a short period for security and reliability. They are not used to restore your JOY account or your jots.
Retention periods
- Account deletion grace period: 7 days from the request. You can cancel until purge starts.
- After purge: the account data listed above is removed and is not kept as a recoverable backup of your JOY account.
- Individual jot deletion (not account deletion): a jot you delete in the app is hidden in Deleted Joys for 30 days, then permanently removed unless you restore it first.
